The SIROUA WOOL PROJECT is a group working to safeguard and promote the endemic and hardy Siroua breed of sheep, Morocco's best wool breed, which is now threatened with extinction.

In a nutshell

  • Siroua sheep wool is ideal for weaving rugs, tapestries and woollen sheets: long, lustrous fibres, entirely white or black, with no jars.

  • Since 2018, we have been working to improve wool harvesting practices, an essential step in obtaining quality yarn.

  • To safeguard and improve the breed by creating a selection herd.

  • To strengthen the resilience of livestock against climate change in a semi-arid to arid region with deteriorating rangelands. We do this by improving livestock practices and integrating biodiversity conservation.
